IDEAS & USEFUL EXPRESSIONS:

1. When you’re feeling down in the dumps, music can help pick you up.

  • feel down in the dumps (idiom) = unhappy
  • pick sb up (phrasal verb): khiến cho ai đó cảm thấy tốt hơn

2. Listening to music can elevate your mood.

  • elevate your mood: cải thiện tâm trạng của bạn, khiến cho bạn vui hơn

3. The joy you can get from music will help lift your spirits and those of everybody else involved. Whether it’s learning your favourite tune, performing on stage or a good old sing-a-long with your mates, music brings fun!

  • lift your spirits = to make you happier: khiến cho bạn vui vẻ hơn, hạnh phúc hơn

4. Music is an essential part of a child’s cognitive development and provides a creative outlet throughout a busy school day. 

  • provide a creative outlet: cung cấp phương tiện để biểu đạt sự sáng tạo

5. Music positively impacts a child’s academic performance, assists in developing social skills, and provides an outlet for creativity that is crucial to a child’s development. Music education should always be considered a pivotal part of a child’s educational process

7. For me, listening to music is a great antidote to boredom.

8. Whether it’s a walk, a run, or a workout in the gym, music can improve your stamina and lead to a better, more enjoyable workout.

9. Music can give children a way to express themselves, to unleash their creativity, to be inspired and uplifted, to relax, and to relieve stress and tension

10. Listening to your favourite song can help in staving off depression.

11. Listening to peaceful music can help with relaxation by slowing your breathing and heart rate as well reducing blood pressure. This makes it easier to unwind and let go of some of your worries which in turn may help you fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer.

12. Exercise is much easier when listening to music. This is because, fast-paced, upbeat music increases your heart rate and gives you a burst of energy, fuelling motivation and maximising performance.

13. Hearing a particular song can bring back a special memory or make you feel happy or calm or pumped up.

14. Practicing music is a creative pursuit. Learning to play an instrument does wonders for the creative side of a child’s brain.

15. It may be painful on your ears when first getting the hang of a new instrument, but persevere and it might just be better for you than you originally would have thought.

  • persevere (in/with sth) (v): kiên trì

16. Playing a musical instrument can keep your mind sharp. Whether you’re tentatively playing the piano or getting to grips with the guitar, you’ll be constantly learning and exercising your mind. When you’re adding new songs to your repertoire, you’re improving your capacity to develop new skills.

  • get to grips with sth (C2) = to make an effort to understand and deal with sth (nỗ lực để hiểu và giải quyết thứ gì)

17. By putting in the hours and dedicating yourself to the craft of mastering your instrument, you can boost your concentration every day.

18. Beyond health benefits, you are also improving your coordination skills when you’re playing an instrument as multiple parts of your body and brain work together to create music.
