MODEL ANSWER
I’d like to talk about a commitment I made to my mom: that I would keep doing morning jogging on a daily basis.
I gave her my word because an accidental event that happened to one of my best friends raised my mother’s fear. You know, my friend was a homebody who was always glued to his phone in all his spare time. The couch potato lifestyle caused him to pile on the pounds, so he was overweight and was recently diagnosed with diabetes. This news shocked me so much coz I never thought a youngster could suffer from this chronic and potentially debilitating illness. When I told my mum about my friend’s suffering, she was worried that I would also get sick due to insufficient working out. My mother consulted a doctor and was told that if I kept doing exercise, it wouldn’t happen to me.
So I promised my mum that I would keep jogging every morning to shave off unwanted pounds, and more importantly, to help me stay healthy. I must admit that it was a little bit difficult for me to keep this promise. It was not easy to get up early in the morning when it was still dark outside. However, I didn’t want to let my mother down. So I tried my utmost to get up at approximately 6 am every morning and run in a park nearby.
A few weeks later, I had acquired a taste for my early morning jogging. It was no exaggeration to say the morning breeze on my face and the refreshed feeling after a 40-minute run really made my day! Not only had this promise benefitted my body, it also trained me to be a person with strong will and execution skills.
