MODEL ANSWER
I’d like to talk about an occasion when my imagination enabled me to get out of a difficult situation. In primary school, I excelled at Literature, and I took great pride in my ability to produce vividly descriptive essays while others were struggling to put pen to paper.
For our fourth grade finals, we were assigned a descriptive essay prompt to write in 45 minutes. However, as I looked at the exam paper, I was completely stumped because the prompt was about boat racing. You know, I had never watched one before! How could I describe in detail something of which I had virtually no knowledge?
The clock was ticking, and I started to panic, so I decided to imagine a boat racing contest and describe it accordingly instead of recalling one I had witnessed in person. It was hard at first as I tried to construct the setup and rules of a game I had never watched before from scratch, but after I got a general idea in my head, images started to spring up in my mind one after another. I thought of the fierce competitiveness of the game, the passion of the participants and audience, and the exciting atmosphere with sounds of water splashing and cheers from the crowd. At the end of the exam, I turned in my paper, having penned my essay entirely based on imagination. Surprisingly, I got an excellent score on the paper, and the teacher even told me it was one of the best essays I had ever written!
The experience made me realise how important imagination was, and I felt that I was in great luck to have been able to do so well on the exam.
