Dưới đây là các từ vựng, Collocations, Idioms, Phrasal Verbs được rút ra từ bài thi IELTS LISTENING, trong sách CAMBRIDGE IELTS 9 – Test 2 mà bạn nên ghi chép lại để học. Mỗi từ vựng dưới đây sẽ được phân loại từ vựng, có phát âm, định nghĩa và ví dụ. Có các từ vựng thuộc trình độ nâng cao sẽ được chú thích B2, C1, C2. Khi làm xong bất kỳ một đề IELTS LISTENING, các bạn nên học từ vựng mới trong phần Recording và từ vựng mới trong câu hỏi của mỗi test.
SECTION 1
- hall of residence (n) /ˌhɔːl əv ˈrezɪdəns/: nơi ăn ở của sinh viên đại học
- find out (about sth/sb) (phrasal verb) = to get some information about sb/sth by asking, reading, etc. (có được thêm thông tin về ai/cái gì)
- preference (n) /ˈprefrəns/ (B2): sở thích; sự thích hơn, sự ưa thích hơn
Example:
When it comes to music, everyone has their own preferences.
- full board /ˌfʊl ˈbɔːrd/ (n): bao gồm tất cả các bữa ăn
- half board /ˌhæf ˈbɔːrd/ (n): bao gồm bữa ăn sáng và bữa ăn tối
- opt for sth (phrasal verb) (C1) = to choose sth (chọn, chọn lựa thứ gì)
Example:
More and more women are opting for motherhood in the second half of life.
- bedsit (n) /ˈbedsɪt/: phòng thuê có cả chỗ ở, ngủ và nấu ăn
- priority (n) /praɪˈɔːrəti/: điều ưu tiên, thứ ưu tiên
Example:
Getting the work done on time is a top priority for me.
- take sth into account (idiom) (B2): đưa cái gì vào xem xét khi đưa ra quyết định
Example:
I’ll need to take many factors into account to make this decision.
- cater for sb/sth (phrasal verb) /ˈkeɪtər/ (C1): phục vụ, cung cấp (cho ai…)
Example:
This library caters for people from all walks of life.
SECTION 2
- delighted (adj) /dɪˈlaɪtɪd/ (B2) = very pleased (rất vui mừng, hài lòng)
Example:
Any woman who values great design will absolutely be delighted with this gift.
- noted (adj) /ˈnəʊtɪd/ = well known because of a special skill or feature (nổi tiếng, có danh tiếng)
Example:
My hometown is noted for its 19th-century architecture.
- craft (n) /kræft/ (B2): nghề thủ công
Example:
All kinds of traditional craft industries are preserved here.
- replica (n) /ˈreplɪkə/ = an exact copy of sth (bản sao đúng như thật, bản sao chính xác)
- reconstruction of sth (n) /ˌriːkənˈstrʌkʃn/ = a copy of sth that no longer exists (bản sao của thứ gì không còn tồn tại)
- herb (n) /ɜːrb/, /hɜːrb/: thảo mộc
- illustrated (adj) /ˈɪləstreɪtɪd/: (một cuốn sách, tạp chí, một bài thuyết trình, một bài nói) có chứa tranh, biểu đồ để minh hoạ
an illustrated talk: một bài nói có chứa tranh, biểu đồ minh hoạ
- ranger (n) /ˈreɪndʒər/: người chăm sóc, bảo vệ công viên hoặc rừng
- turn up (phrasal verb) (B2) = to arrive or appear somewhere (đến hoặc xuất hiện ở một nơi)
Example:
I had turned up on Christmas Eve with Selena.
- hide (n) /haɪd/: nơi nấp mà mọi người có thể xem hoặc nhìn thấy động vật hoang dã hoặc các loài chim
- refreshments (n) /rɪˈfreʃmənts/: các món ăn nhẹ và đồ uống (được phục vụ hoặc bán tại nơi công cộng)
- lead off from sth (phrasal verb) = to start at a place and go away from it (bắt đầu ở một nơi và đi ra xa từ nơi đó)

SECTION 3
- variation (on sth) (n) /ˌveriˈeɪʃn/ (C2) = sth that is slightly different from the usual form (một thứ có chút khác biệt với dạng thông thường)
Examples:
This soup is a spicy variation on a traditional favourite.
The new movie is a variation on the theme of the original ‘Blue Lagoon’.
- component (n) /kəmˈpəʊnənt/ (C1) = a part that combines with other parts to form sth bigger (phần, thành phần)
COLLOCATIONS:
key/major/important component: phần quan trọng chính yếu
Examples:
Hard work has been a major component of her success.
Exercise is one of the key components of a healthy lifestyle.
- relocate (v) /ˌriːˈləʊkeɪt/ = to move or to move sb/sth to a new place (di chuyển tới)
Examples:
I had to relocate to a new city in order to start university.
The company decided to relocate its headquarters to London.
- incorporate (v) /ɪnˈkɔːrpəreɪt/ (B2) = to include sth so that it forms a part of sth (kết hợp, bao gồm vào)
Examples:
This design incorporates the best features of our earlier models.
We’ve incorporated many environmentally friendly features into the design of the building.
- supervise sb/sth (v) /ˈsuːpərvaɪz/ (C1): giám sát; quản lý
Example:
Children should be supervised at all times while playing in a bounce house.
- properly (adv) /ˈprɑːpərli/ (B1): một cách đúng đắn; một cách thích hợp
- take sth up (phrasal verb) (B2): chiếm thời gian hoặc không gian
Example:
This table takes up too much room.
- cramped (adj) /kræmpt/: chật hẹp, không đủ chỗ
Example:
She lived in a rather cramped little apartment in Ho Chi Minh City.
- put sth in (phrasal verb): lắp đặt, cài đặt thứ gì
= install sth (v)
Example:
I decided to have a new shower put in.
SECTION 4
- end up doing sth (phrasal verb) (B1): cuối cùng (thì) (làm gì đó)
Example:
The movie we wanted to see was sold out so we ended up seeing a different one.
- characteristic (n) /ˌkærəktəˈrɪstɪk/ (B2) = a typical feature or quality that sth/sb has (nét đặc trưng; đặc điểm điển hình)
Examples:
An essential characteristic of good teaching is that it must create interest in the learner.
A new interest in art was one of the main characteristics of this period.
- classify sth (v) /ˈklæsɪfaɪ/ (C1): phân loại
Example:
Families are classified according to the father’s occupation.
are classified according to …..: được phân loại theo …..
- procedure (n) /prəˈsiːdʒər/ (B2): thủ tục (trong kinh doanh, chính trị, pháp lý…)
- priority (n) /praɪˈɔːrəti/: điều ưu tiên, thứ ưu tiên
Example:
Getting the work done on time is a top priority for me.
- specialize in sth (phrasal verb) /ˈspeʃəlaɪz/ (B2): chuyên về thứ gì
Example:
This restaurant specializes in seafood.
- co-ordinate (v) /kəʊˈɔːrdɪneɪt/ (C1): phối hợp, sắp xếp (để hoạt động hiệu quả)
Example:
E-commerce has enabled us to coordinate international operations.
- discipline (n) /ˈdɪsəplɪn/ (B2): (sự/tính) kỷ luật
- overheads (n) /ˈəʊvərhedz/: những chi phí thường lệ có liên quan đến vận hành một doanh nghiệp (tiền lương, tiền thuê, tiền điện….)
- in relation to sb/sth (phrase): (khi) so sánh với ai/thứ gì
Example:
Women’s earnings are still low in relation to men’s.
- economies of scale (n) = the reduction of production costs that is a result of making and selling goods in large quantities (lợi thế về chi phí có thể xảy ra khi một công ty tăng quy mô sản xuất và bán sản phẩm theo số lượng lớn, dẫn đến giảm chi phí trên một đơn vị sản phẩm)
- expertise (n) /ˌekspɜːrˈtiːz/ (B2) = expert knowledge or skill in a particular subject, activity or job (kiến thức chuyên môn, khả năng chuyên môn)
COLLOCATIONS:
financial/medical expertise: kiến thức, khả năng chuyên môn về tài chính/ y học
technical expertise: kiến thức chuyên môn, khả năng chuyên môn
Examples:
What he’s bringing to the company is technical expertise.
She has considerable expertise in the management of hotels.
- delegate (v) /ˈdelɪɡeɪt/: giao, giao phó (công việc, nhiệm vụ, trách nhiệm, quyền…..)
delegation (n) /ˌdelɪˈɡeɪʃn/: sự giao phó (công việc, nhiệm vụ, trách nhiệm, quyền…..)
- allocate sth (v) /ˈæləkeɪt/ (C1): cấp cho (ai cái gì), phân phối, phân phát
- exercise (v) /ˈeksərsaɪz/ (C2) = to use your power, rights or personal qualities in order to achieve sth: sử dụng/dùng (quyền lực, quyền, hoặc phẩm chất cá nhân) để đạt được điều gì
COLLOCATIONS:
to exercise right/influence: sử dụng quyền/ tầm ảnh hưởng
to exercise power/control: sử dụng quyền lực/ quyền lực điều khiển
Examples:
People who can exercise some control over their surroundings feel less anxious.
She was a woman who exercised considerable influence over people.
