  • And explain why you were not allowed to use your cell phone.

MODEL ANSWER:

I’m going to talk about the time when I attended my sister’s wedding ceremony inside the GEM Center where her marriage was taking place. Obviously, it’s very disrespectful and rude to use mobile phones during such an auspicious occasion, so we were all asked to turn off our mobile phones. For my sister, it was the biggest and most important day of her life. I think around 100 people attended the marriage ceremony, which was held in a hotel. Of course, most members of my family were there, as well as the groom’s family and the bride and groom’s friends and colleagues. To make the celebration special, we did what most families normally do. My mother made sure that the reception venue was tastefully decorated, and obviously, we all dressed for the occasion.

Everyone had to switch off their cell phones because, when it comes to the big day, such a joyous experience could be ruined by people too busy trying to surf the Internet. A tech-free wedding forced everyone to be fully present and engaged with what was going on. Besides, when preoccupied with different social media channels, chances are there wouldn’t be much mingling between the guests. So a personal electronic device-free wedding would get people off their screens and chatting over some cocktails, helping fuel some family bonding. On top of that, the tech-free wedding would also be a subtle attempt at maintaining and preserving the couple’s privacy.
