Example: My parents are always checking up on me.
- come up against sth (C1) = have to deal with problems or difficulties
Example: Women come up against discrimination when they apply for jobs.
- kick in (C1) = start to have an effect or happen
Example: The new rules kicked in last month.
- come across as (+adj) (C1) = make a particular impression
Example: She comes across as shy, but she’s actually very confident.
- do away with sth (C1) = get rid of sth
Example: A lot of the restrictions on imports have been done away with.
- clamp down (on sb/sth) (C1) = take strict action in order to prevent sth or try harder to punish sb
Example: The police should clamp down on drink-driving offenders.
